About the artist
I am Katriina Kivinen, a visual artist and art teacher from Turku, Finland. My work often combines two- and three-dimensional techniques. I explore themes of the unknown, strangeness, and universal spirituality. Piece by piece, I build my richly saturated and diverse visual world.
The beginning of my artistic process is investigative and verbal, but as the work progresses, I increasingly allow space for synchronistic events to emerge through the combination of materials. I create my visual world piece by piece into concrete form and aim to present my works in immersive spatial installations that invite the viewer inside.
With my art and working methods, I want to encourage the viewer to marvel at the uniqueness of their own world and to create it themselves as intuitively and freely as possible. The most meaningful moments for me are when my students or exhibition visitors feel inspired to do something creative they didn’t dare to try before.
